Work is underway to convert the post offices into employment hubs: Palak
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the work is going on to transform the post office into a massive employment hub for the youth through increasing multi-dimensional services and smart services under PPP. With this goal, four more post offices will be converted into smart service points this month and 500 more in the next month, said the state minister. In this way, eight and a half thousand post offices in the country will be converted into smart service points, said Palak.
He gave this information while speaking online as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the GPO building built at a cost of Tk 16 crore in Barisal on Friday.
The state minister mentioned that smart post offices are essential for smart Bangladesh and said that the government is determined to ensure smart postal services at the doorsteps of every people in the country including remote areas by using the vast network of post offices, huge infrastructure and manpower. In today's age of digital technology, every person-to-person communication can be done by postal department. This service knows every person in every corner of the country. In addition to giving emphasis on G-to-G postal services and ecosystem building, smart capacity building requires changing mindsets and existing mindsets, adopting smart technology and building capacity to use smart technology.
He said that since 2009, under the visionary leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the implementation was completed in 2021 under the guidance of the Honorable Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information and Communication Technology Mr. Sajib Ahmed Wazed Joy, a distinguished computer scientist. The journey to establish Bangabandhu's cherished dream of Sonar Bangla has begun through the construction of Smart Bangladesh announced by the Honorable Prime Minister on the strong foundation of Digital Bangladesh. The State Minister mentioned that the role of Directorate of Posts is immense in establishing a knowledge-based smart society.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the era of exchanging letters at the personal level is over due to the effect of digitization, but the post office will be the most reliable service organization for transporting goods. If the post office can be converted from mail delivery service to service delivery service, the institution will be able to make a great contribution to the country's economy. He promised to increase the number of night post offices in Barisal.
Deputy Commissioner of Barisal Shahidul Islam presided over the event while the Director General of Postal Department Tarun Kanti Sikder, Post Master General of South Khulna Shamsul Alam spoke. Later the minister inaugurated the newly constructed GPO building.
